"It begins with your immune system"
There have been many times in history where we would have been well served by altering the course and heading in a new direction. The use of
immune modulation strategies in maintaining health and healing will require a large shift in our vision of patients, doctors, and medicine but the payback appears huge.
Picture a world where healing occurs from within, not from without. A world where illness is viewed as a pathway to good health. Picture a world where immune suppressing drugs are only used in the most unusual cases, or perhaps not used at all. To reach such a world we will need effective immune modulation through nutrition and supplementation.
Today, many of the world's leading immunologists, expresses new hope for both immune disorders and autoimmune diseases such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Epstein Barr Virus, Fibromyalgia, Hepatitis C, Sinusitis, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, Infections, Allergies, Colds & Flu and so many others.
What Is An Immune Disorder?
An immune system disorder is basically the inability of your immune system to protect you from things that under healthy/normal conditions would be considered routine and surmountable.
Every severe and chronic disease has an immune disorder or dysfunction as its base. There is a Cause!
Some Things Your
Immune System Is Suppose To Do:
"Our immune system is the most dynamic body component in determining our state of health or disease...Our immune system constantly interacts with our internal environment, protects us from our external environment and provides the inherent knowledge to sense the difference between friend and foe". Dr. Elson Haas”
Dr. Bert Berkson, physician and researcher says, "Your immune system is constantly neutralizing the boundless toxins in our environment and fighting alien bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and parasites. In addition, cancer cells are always appearing, and the immune system must be able to recognize and destroy them. A normal cell, in addition to destroying invaders, must remember who the invaders are, so that at a later date it can kill similar germs." An inability to perform these functions will result in an immune disorder and subsequent illness.
What Your Immune System
Deals With Every Day - Predators
Potential immune disorder triggers
Viruses
There are 4000 named viruses. Some are new like the West Nile Virus. Some are old like the Epstein Barr Virus which most of us carry but remains dormant in most of us.
"Even if you are perfectly healthy, thousands of viruses may be present in your blood, only 75% of which have been identified." Jesse Stoff, M.D.
The flu is a virus. A cold is a virus and there are over 400 cold viruses. Smallpox is a virus. HIV is a virus. Viruses don't respond to antibiotics. Most medical professionals will tell you that they don't respond very well to anti-viral drugs either. Viruses are associated with a multitude of immune disorders.
Bacteria - Antibiotics
There are billions of bacteria. Since the 1940's antibiotics have been very effective in killing bacteria. We have and still do use antibiotics liberally. Tuberculosis is a bacteria. Anthrax is a bacteria. Bacterial infections are the root of many problems and can be the cause of many immune disorders.
Dr. Peter J D'Adamo states, "Did you know that antibiotics only reduce the level of infection? Your body's immune system is still required to finish the battle."
Since bacteria are living things many have mutated, or "learned" to overcome the antibiotics. Today there are bacteria that can live in bleach. The term for this is antibiotic resistance and it's causing much anxiety in the medical community.
Examples of some infections with antibiotic resistant strains are staph, strep, meningitis, samonella, malaria and TB.
"Antibiotics disturb the normal internal flora and may actually promote recurrent infections by promoting the development of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. In fact, because antibiotics have been widely over prescribed over the years, many of the bacteria in our bodies - estimates run from 50 to 80 percent - are now resistant to common antibiotics such as sulfa drugs and tetracycline. This forces doctors to resort to more powerful and potentially more dangerous antibiotics that pose a greater risk of adverse reactions and side effects." Dr. James Balch
In 1997 David Dacha, Director of the Center For Disease Control stated,
"In recent years, antibiotics have become less effective against infectious agents, and we are concerned with the 'post' antibiotic era..." In other words, what are we going to do when antibiotics are no longer effective?
Cancer
There are 200 different cancers. Nixon declared war on cancer in 1971 and the number of people getting cancer has increased steadily ever since. Cancerous cells are something your immune system fights every day because they appear every day. A routine function of your immune system is clearing cancer cells from your body. Over a half million people die from cancer each year. This is a very serious immune disorder with the immune system continually weakening.
The repeat rate of cancer is high enough that Dr. Lois Travis of the National Institutes of Health offers this warning, "The most common cancer is the second cancer...those second cancers not arising from the treatment (of the first cancer: chemotherapy and radiation) arise from the same cause as the first cancer."
Both these treatments further weaken the immune system which can perpetuate the immune disorder already present.
Autoimmune Diseases
There are 56 autoimmune diseases. Not all immune disorders are the result of immune deficiencies. Some are the result of an immune system gone awry - attacking you in addition to whatever invader might have triggered the action. Sometimes this is called an overactive or self-attacking immune system. Systemic Lupus is known as a classic autoimmune disease. But there are others like MS, Crohn's and Autoimmune Hepatitis.
Some researchers believe autoimmune diseases are a condition of mistaken identity. That the invader looks a lot like part of you. Some believe it could also be a deficiency in T-suppressor cells. They're a part of the immune system that stops the attack.
"Autoimmune diseases can result from several different defects, or combinations of defects, in the immune system...There are intimate links between infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, etc.) and autoimmunity." Dr. David Isenberg, PhD, Professor, Oxford University, England
Fungi
There's over 100,000 species of fungi. Many are good and useful while some cause problems and about 400 cause disease and can be at the root of some immune disorders. The most common are candida and tinea. "Recurrent fungi infections are a common sign of depressed immune function". Drs. Phyllis and James Balch.
